You wanna no something… I agree… I have had SEVERAL issues with data corruption on the Drobo a couple months after shooting this episode.

And being in a closed end system is never a good idea. I know, I know, I was all for the Drobo in this episode. But my opinion of the thing has gone sour.

A lot of people still love it, but I will no longer use one.

I would delete this episode, but I think its still good to let people know about backing up.

I always have an issue with NAS, especially with RAID system. You see, they always assume it’s the harddisk that will spoil. The problem is, what happen when it’s the enclosure that is spoiled?

And smart is not a good thing. Because the smarter the NAS, the more difficult it is to find replacement that is compatible. Even getting the same model as replacement may fail due to diff version of firmware.

To play safe, I always use mirroring rather than RAID 5 that has it’s data stripped across multiple harddisks. At least even when the enclosure is no longer in sale, I can still connect to any computer to retrieve the data.

I wanted to write to tell you how much I have enjoyed your show, even when I know the subject well. The production values are great and you have a great, relaxed presentation. I felt really badly when you said people were critical of your blue shirt. Uncalled for.

I’d love to see a ‘behind the scenes’ episode where you discuss how you use the awesome tools to create your video. You seem like a great guy and thanks for the podcast! Keep ‘em coming!

Great show. I’m sorry I haven’t written sooner to tell you several of us appreciate your efforts. Your show looks great on my tv using iTunes to my AppleTV HD–it’s one of the best looking visually of all the shows I download

Drobo,

Are you kidding me, I did not even know you were supposed to back up your system. I bet this thing would make waffles taste even better, knowing that all my info was safe, and my secret recipe was backed up redundantly. I know what I am doing with my stimulus check.
